We're so connected, we're disconnected

Connection: to understand there's a relationship between two or more things

Making an on-camera connection

I'm sure when you read the title of this blog you may have rolled your eyes a little. I get it. It seems like the older generation harps on the younger generations for being so-called "addicted" to technology. While it might be frustrating, there's some truth to it.

So what does that mean for you? When we connect online or through social media, it's not a true connection to another human being. We often forget the very basics of being a human being. We, as humans, crave connections. That's why when we watch someone on-camera, we can quickly decide whether or not we connect with them.

So how do you connect on-camera?

Here's three things you can easily do:

  1. Smile: Smiling is the simplest easiest way to connect with others not only in person, but on-camera as well. It makes you likable, and relatable.

  2. Eye Contact: Making eye contact with the camera is essential. It's also incredibly important to make eye contact with your interviewer, or interviewee.

  3. Be Authentic: Be yourself. Humans have a natural instinct. We can pick up when someone is being genuine, and when they're simply trying to fool people.
